Santería is a religion of secrets. And, all the secrets are obvious for anyone to see.
Without initiation, though, you will not understand what you see. The same blue cloth
on a throne otherwise decorated in white and red is merely a pretty decoration to the
uninitiated and to the initiated is a symbol indicating that the iyawo is a child of
Shango and was born from a Godparent who has Yemaya.
Still, there are things which should not be spoken of publically. Everything has its time
and place. Once initiated, nothing will be hidden from you. Still, it seems that online,
many want to get taught the secrets and learn everything right away.
Santeria is not a religion of books. It is an oral religion. You learn by observing and
doing from a godparent. You cannot self initiate, you cannot learn it all from books. It
is wrong and disrespectful to be unitiated and take something you read in a book
and say you are worshipping the Orisha.
It is hard for some people to find a godparent, and our Referal section should help
you find a godparent. Still, people are hungry to learn more. The books available
about Santeria are generally written by uninitiates. And those written by initiates are
often written by those who just do not know.
Still, we understand your hunger for information, and a series of essays and articles
about the religion of Santeria, Regla de Ocha are provided here for you all to read.
We hope that you enjoy and learn from these articles. We also look forward to yoru
